Analysis and Study on the Cause of the Dam Abutment Crack of CFRD

Publication: Earth and Space 2016: Engineering for Extreme Environments

ABSTRACT

A concrete face rockfill dam has been running for 8 years since the construction completed. Aiming at the crack problem of the left dam abutment in the dam site inspection, firstly, according to the data analysis of dam displacement monitoring data, the displacement of the left dam abutment is determined. Secondly, in order to analyze the cause of the cracks in the left dam abutment, considering the characteristics of the project, the construction scheme, and the filling material, the three-dimensional finite element model is established, thus the left dam abutment of dam crack irregular deformation is calculated under the influence factors such as the slope gradient, dam filling materials, and dam filling sequence. Finally, based on the research, it is shown that it should make much account of the slope gradient, dam filling materials, and dam filling sequence in order that the irregular dam deformation could be avoided for the concrete face rockfill dam.
