Abstract
The current version of American Water Works Association (AWWA) Manual M-11, Steel Pipe: A Guide for Design and Installation, was published in 2004. This is the 4th edition of the manual. AWWA policy requires reviewing and updating manuals, such as M11, every seven years. Through the course of the previous editions, numerous topics were added to the manual. Many of these topics were just added to the last chapter. The revision currently underway will reorganize the manual to better accommodate this information. This paper will review the history of AWWA Manual M11 and present the new organization of the proposed revisions. Discussion of the changes will be presented. These include clarification of nomenclature and formulae and some guidance on seismic design.
