Abstract
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) require high quality and reliable traffic information in real time, such as traffic flow, vehicle speed, road situation, etc. The development of network impels Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) to become one of the most important methods in collecting information. Currently, uniform transmission power is used between sensor notes in general and great value is set to increase the coverage of detected regions, which brings about a large number of topology edges in the network. Dense network will not only result in high energy consumption, but also increase the probability of communication conflicts and loss of traffic information. In this paper, we propose a topology control protocol that can be used for WSNs in complicated traffic environment. The results show that average node degree as well as average transmit radius are decreased under topology control, which can simplify the complexity degree of network topology and further improve the reliability of traffic data collection.
