Model of Pedestrian Delay Differences between Exclusive Pedestrian Phase and Car-Shared Pedestrian Phase

Publication: ICTE 2013: Safety, Speediness, Intelligence, Low-Carbon, Innovation

Abstract

Unlike traditional car-shared pedestrian phase situation—pedestrians and vehicles are released at the same time—exclusive pedestrian phase can isolate pedestrians from vehicles completely. However, due to the extra phase and the centralized release of pedestrians, it may cause an increase of pedestrian delay. This paper aims at building a model that can analyze the pedestrian delay differences between the two phases. Considering the route choices of pedestrian flow are different, the model is composed of signal delay, blocked delay, and path delay. The result shows that the delay differences between them mainly exist in signal delay and blocked delay. The more of turning vehicles, the narrower the disparity will be.
