Empirical Evidence on the Effectiveness of the Labeling Approach of Route Choice Set Generation

Route choice is an important step in travel. When the destination and travel mode is decided, it comes to the decision about which route to take. Before this decision is made, which routes are available and reasonable to be considered has to been known by the traveler, so he or she can make a choice among these routes. In this paper, the labeling approach is checked to see how much it is usable using empirical evidence, which is observed travel from taxi GPS log data. The results show that the labeling approach can account for more than 80% of observed travels, the most frequently chosen route is the fastest one, and the second most chosen is the shortest one in distance.
