Abstract
In this paper the results of a numerical analysis on the effectiveness of slit-check dams in mountain rivers are reported. The temporal evolution of the sediment-related processes occurring upstream of slit-check dams was investigated by means of a numerical model based on the solution of the one-dimensional De Saint Venant-Exner equations. A comparison with literature data from laboratory experiments has shown the model to accurately reproduce the sediment transport processes as well as the evolution of the deposit upstream of the slit-check dam. Then, model simulations were performed to derive indications for the slit design as a function of the required check effectiveness of the dam structure.
