Abstract
This work discusses the development of the Railway Hydraulic Hazard Monitoring System (RHHMS), a flash flood forecasting system for railroad bridge and culvert crossings. Also in the report presented herein, a Geographic Information System (GIS) is used to combine national scale spatial data sets with tabular accident data available from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), to perform an investigation of washout-related train derailments and identify a suitable test location.
