Site Planning and Hydraulic Design of a Cargo Seaport Exposed to Typhoons and Tsunamis—A Project Case in the Philippines

Abstract
A methodology for selecting the most suitable seaport site from two or more prospective sites is presented. Hydraulic analyses of the wave climate under prevailing and typhoon conditions are based on simulations using a nearshore wave model. The inland incursion of tsunamis is computed based on prognostic equations of long waves. The selection method is based on the overall rating using a site suitability matrix. The hydraulic analyses are also used in preliminary engineering design of the port dock and in determining the wave conditions for the engineering design of the port structure.
