Study on the Development Characteristics of the Strength of Inorganic Binder Modified Saline Soil

Publication: ICCTP 2011: Towards Sustainable Transportation Systems

Abstract

Coastal saline soil has problems with high salt content, low strength, dissolve falling characteristics, low water stability, and frost heaving. It will directly influence the normal use of road subgrade and pavement if no treatment measures are taken. To modify coastal chlorine saline soil used as subgrade fill, cement and lime are added in different mixing ratio. An unconfined compressive strength test was carried out and the development characteristics of the compressive strength of modified saline soil are discussed based on the modifier type, modifier dosage, and health preservation age. A case study was conducted on the saline soil used in the road subgrade of the coastal highway (Rudong section) in Nantong city Jiangsu province, and the experimental results show that inorganic binder modified saline soil has higher strength and is reliable and safe as subgrade fill in highway. Furthermore, adding cement to modify saline soil is better than lime as the modifier dosage is increased, but lime is better than cement at prolonging health preservation age.
