Abstract
Based on the research of ultra-thin asphalt concrete, this paper brings forward a new kind of pavement material named Easy-Compact Hot-Mix Asphalt (ECA). ECA-additive and polyester fiber are adopted to produce asphalt mixtures, and various lab tests are undertaken to evaluate the effects of these additives on asphalt mixture performance. The results show that all performances of the mixture with additives are improved significantly. Compared with the performance of an AC-13C mixture, the test results of the ECA mixture indicate that the performance of the ECA mixture with polyester fiber and ECA-Additive is much better than that of the AC-13C mixture. Afterwards, a tracking observation is made on a real project to evaluate the pavement performance of an ECA mixture, and the field performance shows that the ECA mixture displays good pavement performance without new rutting distresses after being in use for a long time.
