Abstract
An operational model of toll station was developed using the microscopic simulation tool PARAMICS integrated with the comprehensive modal emission model (CMEM). Key parameters in PARAMICS were adjusted to make the simulation results consistent with the actual situation. To evaluate the operation of toll stations, quantitative analysis was made on average delay, fuel consumption, and vehicular exhaust. The impacts of throughput and speed on the operational characteristic of single ETC lanes were studied. Scenarios of different ETC vehicle rates were simulated to analyze the impact of ETC lanes on toll stations. Moreover, East Xin-gang toll station in Huanan expressway was selected for illustrating the improved operation with ETC lanes.
