Variable Fuzzy Assessment Method and Its Application in Comprehensive Evaluation of Road Safety

Road safety evaluation is one of important methods to maintain the security of road condition. It is a multi-grade and multi-index fuzzy evaluation problem that relates to politics, society, economy and environment etc. Many present methods have weak points separately, such as Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation Method which failed for its nonadaptability of maximum membership degree .In this article, Variable Fuzzy Set Theory will be introduced into the comprehensive evaluation of road traffic safety. The reliability of evaluation result is supposed to be improved by adopting relative membership degree and relative difference function which were used to interpret intermediary transition, and introducing feature of grades to quantify the result. The proposed method was applied to assess a featured road in Dalian city and the results indicate it's feasibility and rationality. The research in this paper could be used as an reference for the future management and security improvement.
