Abstract
The damping can reflect materials energy loss under cyclic loading. In this paper, the dynamic modulus of asphalt mixture was tested, and the area of the stress and strain hysteretic curve was put forward to evaluate the damping characteristics of the asphalt mixture. The asphalt mixtures with various binders, various NMAS and various air voids were researched respectively. The results showed that there was good negative correlation between damping and dynamic/static modulus, and the damping decreased as modulus of asphalt mixture increased. The viscosity of the asphalt and the porosity of the asphalt mixture had significant influences on damping. The damping increased with the increasing of binder viscosity and air voids; and there was no significant correlation between damping and the NMAS.
