Preferred Maintenance Programs of Asphalt Pavement
Publication: ICTE 2011
Abstract
When a highway is being into its maintenance stage, the destruction conditions and its reasons are extremely complex. According to the road conditions, there will be many possible solutions directed at the question of it. By various conditions of restricted (limited finance, construction duration, equipment and so on), there is not existing the "best solution"(efficiency of the largest and lowest cost). However, there is existing a "preferred solution" that is economy and effective. Based on an evaluation of the condition of highway and candidate measures, this article proposes a method in deciding a "preferred solution" in the maintenance stage of a road. The economic factor should be taken into consideration in deciding the maintenance program. For a feasible program, when the cost analysis can't show its obvious advantages, other factors can be used to support choosing. This article takes the economic and other factors into consideration to determine the weight coefficient, and then proposes using decision tree method to determine the preferred solution. This method first introduces weight and the relative value of each factor (initial investment, construction duration, extended life, expected results, the total costs) to sort of each program, and then according to the sort of results to determine the preferred solution of asphalt pavement maintenance program.
