Abstract
It is a potential danger for heavy trucks running on long and downgrade slopes, while these slopes are inevitable in mountainous terrain highway design. Recent statistics analysis shows that mountainous terrain highway traffic accidents mainly happened on the section of continuous downgrade slopes. Meanwhile, with the development of transportation industry, accidents frequency on continuous downgrade slopes has been increasing rapidly. The traffic safety on those slopes is becoming a social focus spot. In this paper, through investigating the traffic characteristics of domestic typical continuous downgrade slope sections, collecting the data of road technology parameters, truck loads, accidents, etc. the author made study on accident causes of truck brake-failure, and put forward safety counter measures for continuous downgrade slopes, considering existing methods, effects, and problems.
