Abstract
The study involves a functional simulation model for the maritime transit traffic in the harbor public channel that investigates the channel traffic capacity. The model provides a platform to analyze the effects of factors such as Rules and Regulations, vessel type and its proportion, vessel speed, safety distance between ships, scheduling strategy, meteorological and hydrological conditions etc. on the traffic capacity of the harbor public channel. The model has inbuilt flexibility to consider additional variables and parameters depending on data availability and scenarios to be examined. The results obtained from the study clearly indicate that some interesting relationships exist among these factors.
