Application of Traffic Information Publishing System in Highway Operation Management

Abstract

The highest goals of the highway operation and management are to minimize the road congestion and its negative effects, improve the safety and the overall mobility, and offer help in an emergency. In recent years the progress in monitoring and controlling, telecommunications and information processing and transmission of information technology, which is emphasizing "real-time" application, has greatly promoted the highway operational management. This paper summarizes the development status and features of the traffic information publishing system. It analyzes the problems of the traditional highway operation management, and discusses the service mode of the information publishing system. On the basis of existing monitoring system on the highway at current, the strategy how to apply the information publishing system to the highway operation management is suggested, which is from having one management institution and controlling a special equipment, to the situation that several management institutions and private sectors joint control variety of equipments and mechanisms.
