Progress on RFID Technology Application in Logistics Industry
Publication: ICLEM 2010: Logistics For Sustained Economic Development: Infrastructure, Information, Integration
Abstract
RFID is an automatic identification technology. The paper stresses that RFID uses radio frequency to realize the untouched intercommunication data exchange to find the identification of objects. In addition, it explains that RFID bears a number of merits such as identification at a long distance, storing more information, updating information in real-time, small size, low price and operation in a harsh environment. The use of RFID in logistics applications is one of the pre-eminent fields where this technology can shine. Products can be tracked from point of manufacture (and even earlier, if sourced components are tracked using RFID) all the way through the distribution chain and down to the retail level. This paper deals with the current progress on RFID technology application in logistics industry, especially in warehouse & distribution management and provides an analysis of bumps along the road which need to be overcome.
