Abstract
In order to solve the problem of vehicle bumping at bridge ends, the selection of the backfill material near the backfill area of the bridge-subgrade transition is important, which requires an understanding the mechanical features of the material. In this paper, the general finite element software ABAQUS and the Drucker-Prager elastic-plastic model are used to research the characteristic parameters of the backfill materials in the backfill area in the bridge-subgrade transition. The parameters analyzed included weight, strength, elastic modulus, coefficient of penetrability and the time of compression. Results show that increased time for precompression and features of the backfill material, including light-density, high- strength, large elastic modulus, good penetrability, can restrain pavement structural and functional damage caused by differential settlement in the bridge-subgrade transition section.
