Stability Finite Element Analysis in the Process of One Side Widened-Embankment Construction

Publication: ICCTP 2010: Integrated Transportation Systems: Green, Intelligent, Reliable

Abstract

In order to analyze the stability of one side widened-embankments in the process of old road slope steps excavation and new embankment construction, combined with the test section of Fangzheng to Harbin part of Tongjiang-Sanya highway, the ABAQUS software and Mohr-Coulomb constitutive model was used to set up the finite element model of the stability analysis of one side widened-embankments. Based on the soil material parameters of old and new embankments and foundations identified by an on-site survey, the stability safety coefficient was calculated using the strength reduction method. And the results were verified by applying the simplified Bishop method of the specifications. The results showed that the most dangerous slip surface is not a strictly circular-shape, but a similar arc of a certain thickness as the slip bands. The stability safety coefficients calculated by strength reduction finite element method are basically the same as those ofthe simplified Bishop method. One side widening of the high embankment construction process, each step excavation of the old embankment side slope, and embankment stability safety coefficient are a different decline. After first-class step excavated, the safety factor calculated is the least. When the step is in the middle of the embankment side slope, the excavation and new embankment construction has a greater influence on the stability.
