Resilient Behavior of Compacted Silt under the Repeated Triaxial Test
Publication: ICCTP 2010: Integrated Transportation Systems: Green, Intelligent, Reliable
Abstract
In order to evaluate the performance of silt subgrade under traffic loading, a series of repeated triaxial tests were conducted to investigate the resilient behavior of compacted silt under various physical and mechanical conditions. Based on test results, a predictive model of resilient modulus (Mr) using variables of deviator stress and physical states of specimens, was developed. It shows that, under repeated loading, Mr of compacted silt decreases gradually with increasing deviator stress. for a stable specimen, there is a "critical resilient modulus", but for a failed specimen, Mr decreases continuously. Moreover, Mr of compacted silt decreases with increasing water content, especially under lower degree of compaction, higher water content and higher deviator stress levels, and Mr increases with increasing compaction. Furthermore, the predicted Mr fits measured ones well.
