Abstract
Service level classification of facilities in passenger terminals is usually established according to the required space of pedestrians in different situations. Considering the differences of space requirements among different nationalities of pedestrians, owing to the diverse characteristics of their stature, behavior and surroundings, pedestrian flow data in typical Chinese passenger terminals were collected and analyzed. Parameters for relations of pedestrian flow in different terminal facilities are established based on the data. The required space of pedestrians in different instances, and at a variety of walking speeds is gained by analyzing important points on curves generated by parameter relations. These results are compared with the literature. By comparing the size of pedestrian space requirements in Chinese passenger terminals with service level classifications in foreign transport terminals, a classification standard of service levels is determined for Chinese passenger terminals.
