Abstract
To monitor operating state of vehicles in real-time during transportation of hazardous material, remote monitoring platform software for transportation vehicle of hazardous material was developed by using the development tools of Visual Basic and SQL Database. With the technologies of GPRS, GPS and GIS, operating state information of vehicles collected with vehicle-mounted monitoring terminal was sent to the monitoring platform running on server. By comparing the two data transmission protocols in GPRS network, TCP/IP was finally selected as the vehicle communication protocol. Therefore the bi-directional communication between remote monitoring platform and vehicle-mounted monitoring terminal was implemented. Field tests verified that the remote monitoring platform software can monitor vehicle location and real-time transport status. Furthermore, the results showed that this new platform is a practical application in engineering.
