Abstract
This paper will describe the master planning of the semi-automated container terminal (fully automated stacking cranes in the storage yard supported by manually operated horizontal transports) at the Stage 1A greenfield multi-purpose Khalifa Port (KP) which is currently under development by the Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC). KP is located 4.5 km (2.8 miles) offshore of Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Issues specifically discussed in this paper include the results of quay crane numerical simulations study that was performed to compare potential productivity of five different quay crane configurations, as well as the development of the spatial layout of the container terminal.
