Biaxial Tension Analysis of Geomembranes under the Condition of Interface Shear Stress
Publication: Earth and Space 2010: Engineering, Science, Construction, and Operations in Challenging Environments
Abstract
In this paper the FEM is used to analyse how the interface shear stress affects the tension in geomembranes with biaxial displacement loaded at the specimen's boundaries. And the numerical solution is based on two models, one is interface shear stress (SS) — shear displacement (SD) response between the geomembranes and soil; and the other is the biaxial stretching stress-strain response of geomembranes. And the result indicates that the shear stress should not be disregarded in design and construction, especially at where the displacement of the geomembranes is relatively biger than somewhere else.
