Abstract
Reinforcing the bonding of the young concrete overlay and the old concrete with mechanical joint element (MJE) is an effective measure to repair the used concrete pavement. Splitting tests of the young and old concrete samples with MJE were carried out and the simulation results using the finite element method to assess mending effects by MJE under wheel load were analyzed. The design method and construction method to repair the used concrete pavement with reasonable MJE ratio is proposed. Example calculation results indicate that the repaired pavement with MJE presents good performance under the comprehensive fatigue stress of load and temperature in design period.
