New Concrete Improving Performance of Airfield Pavement

Publication: ICCTP 2009: Critical Issues In Transportation Systems Planning, Development, and Management

Abstract

In order to study the feasibility of new types of concrete in airfield pavement, the long-term performance of steel fiber concrete, polypropylene fiber concrete and latex concrete were evaluated by testing in parallel their flexural modulus, anti friction and anti filter performance, and their fatigue and anti freezing performance. The results show that latex concrete has low flexural module and is useful to reduce inner stress of pavement slab. However, the latex concrete has poor anti freeze performance and is therefore only applicable in non-freezing districts. Steel fiber concrete and polypropylene fiber concrete have excellent anti-fatigue and anti-freeze performance; therefore, they can improve the airfield pavement life.
