Analysis of Deformation Characteristics of Collision Vehicles Using Close-Range Photogrammetry

Abstract

Determining deformable location, size, and depth of vehicle is important during the process to reason a road accident. The use of close-range stereo photogrammetry in traffic accident scene investigations is vital for providing such information in more detail comparing with traditional methods. A case study is introduced to verify the method using the paralleling axis stereo vision theory, which provides accurate three-dimensional (3D) coordinates of the deformation-related feature points, and describes the location and the range of the vehicle deformation.
