Abstract
New approaches to the optimization of railway longitudinal section design are based on evaluating the performance in respect of construction and operation. In gale weather the index of gradient is especially essential as a variable. Four models are established, combined with four car types to calculate corresponding gradients according to various wind speed under different operational conditions. Control interval of gradient can be selected based on invest and operation requirements. With the help of software it helps choose economical gradient in station construction and precautions against rolling stock's free rolling in existing station.
