Abstract
Reinforced concrete hollow slabs are among the most common structural elements. In spite of the large number of slabs designed and built, the effect of holes on their punching shear behavior are not always appreciated or properly taken into account. The present work reports the testing results of 9 reinforced concrete hollow slabs and analysis results of 80 reinforced concrete solid slabs which were designed to against punching shear. The deformation of slab, stress of steel reinforcement and crack development are analyzed. Curved cracks, bending and shearing cracks, punching shear ring cracks and horizontal cracks between steel reinforcement and concrete are observed in the tests. The testing results show that punching shear strength of reinforced concrete hollow slab is affected by effective thickness of slab, the ratio of hollowness, the concrete strength, the strength and reinforcement ratio and loading area. The punching shear strength model of reinforced concrete hollow slab is also proposed.
