Abstract
This paper sets forth the concept of traceability, its importance in improving added value of food and security of food supply chain. On the basis of explaining the structure of a food supply chain and analyzing the process of request and response of information, the paper provides a software architecture of a distributed traceable system of food supply chain, this architecture is based on web service, XML and related technologies. Then, the paper discusses robustness, security and performance of response time which are related to this software architecture. In conclusion, the paper points out that the future studies on traceable system in food supply chain will focus on two issues, one is how to improve the capability of each node in learning traceable information from others; the other is the study of dynamic strategies to minimize the access delay in the traceability systems.
