Abstract
Driving speed is an important factor in road safety. Speed not only affects the severity of a crash, but is also related to the risk of being involved in a crash. This paper discusses some former studies about the problems brought by driving speed. Such as crashes, the risk of crashes, energy demands, environment. Even though recent studies shed some light on these factors as well as on the direction of the effects, knowledge is still insufficient to allow for specific quantifications.
