Abstract
LIM (Linear Introduction Motor) wheel/rail transit system is a new kind of urban rail transit form. There are two pieces of rails on the LIM line as those in traditional wheel/rail systems supporting and guiding equipments. However, LIM trains are drawn by LIM which is different from that of traditional railway which gains traction force from friction between the two pieces of rail and wheels of trains. Based on studies on the traction and breaking characters of LIM train, a new model was established through analysis on the forces acting on the train. The model line parameters in LIM system, including traction grade and starting/breaking distance, are calculated as reference for LIM line design characters.
