Integrated Development of the Vehicle-Monitoring System

Publication: International Conference on Transportation Engineering 2007

Abstract

Nowadays the problem of lower efficiency exists in traditional logistics MIS. To solve this problem, we have developed a brand-new system armed with the function of vehicles monitoring. In this way, the efficiency can be greatly promoted. Taking the system of Sinotrans logistics management for example, we use OLE Automation to integrate the GIS and traditional MIS. Firstly, we made second exploitation based on MapInfo 6.5. Then we develop the foreground application MIS with VB while MapInfo 6.5 is running as background server. The foreground application makes up communications with the background server. In this way, we can integrate vehicles monitoring function into the MIS. As the result of our research, we obtained the integrated system which not only optimizes the management of the logistics business, but also has the functions of vehicles tracking, monitoring, and traces replay in use of electronic maps. The system makes use of the advantages sufficiently so that the logistics companies can hence the control and boosts its efficiency.
