A Simulation System for Transportation Management on High-Speed Railway
Publication: Applications of Advanced Technologies in Transportation (2002)
Abstract
The planning Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway (Jing-Hu HSR) in China will adopt mixed operation of high-speed trains (HST) and medium-speed trains (MST), which greatly complicates the transportation management on this line. A synthetic simulation system is developed to study the transportation management under this special operation mode. The simulation system aims at not only making train operation plans for various operation conditions, but also providing a good experimental tool to evaluate the synthetic performance of transportation system from both static and dynamic aspects. To achieve the goal, the basic structure and data flow of the system are designed considering the whole process of train operation from making plan to executing plan. Some key technologies to guarantee the optimal simulation results are simply described. By use of the system, a lot of simulations on train operation are made and some valuable conclusions and suggestions are proposed.
