Abstract
With the rapid increase of motor vehicles, the increasing traffic jams hinder the development of most cities in China. Based on the abundant practical experience on traffic management and the large amount of practical data in Gourd Island city, this paper synthetically analyzes the reasons for traffic jams, which are not only related to the contradiction between traffic needs and traffic offerings, but also related to the unreasonable distribution of traffic generations, irrelevant structure of transport capacity and road network, insufficiency in public traffic capacity and means of transportation as well as lagging traffic management. Furthermore, the possible ways to alleviate traffic jams in Gourd Island city are discussed in details. Finally, the project of urban traffic integrated planning in Gourd Island city is proposed so as to solve the traffic problems radically.
