A Generic Road Traffic Simulation Model
Publication: Traffic And Transportation Studies (2002)
Abstract
In this article, we present an original simulation model: ARCHISIM. This work is done under the patronage of INRETS. In opposition, to the most of the road traffic models that are usually designed to resolve a well defined problem, ARCHISIM attempt to model and to reproduce the driver behavior. In this way, we aim to have a generic simulation model which is applicable to any road situation and not to a particular one. Another feature of ARCHISIM is its ability to host a driving simulator and thus to immerse a real driver in a simulated traffic. By this feature we enable in-depth studies of the driver behavior. In this paper we will show that our approach allows not only to produce a realistic traffic but also to simulate vehicles which, behave individually in a credible way. We give an experimental validation done in the particular case of file driving. In addition, having realistic driver behaviour we demonstrate that ARCHISIM is a tool for in-depth study of behaviours.
