On the Choice of Payment Modes in Urban Railway Service
Publication: Traffic And Transportation Studies (2002)
Abstract
This paper aims to analyze a payment mode choice of travelers in urban railway service and to discuss the impact of the card system on the users' behavior. Three types of payment modes are taken into account, namely normal ticket; coupon ticket; and pre-paid card, and a choice model is formulated as a Nested Logit (NL) model. Simulation analyses are further conducted to two cases that the frequency of usage of railway service changes, and a common card is introduced.
