Vibrational Analysis of an Indoor APM
Publication: Automated People Movers: Moving Through the Millennium
Abstract
This paper will describe the analysis KHA used to determine the suitability of this structural arrangement. KHA modeled the terminal structure and the characteristics of the moving APM trains. The interaction between the guideway and vehicle dynamics was essential to the assessment of whether or not the proposed configuration would be viable. The vibrations of the APM and its guideway could potentially influence adjacent platforms, premier lounges and even the gate level below. The comfort of APM travelers and gate-level observers as well as both the comfort and exposure of airport employees were considered of utmost importance. Field data collected at an existing, operating system was reviewed and compared to the model predictions. The predicted vibrations imposed on the guideway, and on the adjacent structures and on the gate level were all compared to ISO and ANSI standards to assess the influence that such vibrations would have on exposed people.
