Prospects for Automated People Mover Service in Salt Lake City

Abstract
This paper examines the feasibility of automated people mover (APM) service in Salt Lake City, Utah. Salt Lake City is the central city of the Wasatch Front region which, with a population of 1.7 million, is home to 80% of Utah's residents. Salt Lake City is within 20 kilometers of several world-class ski resorts, serves as the center of the growing Latter-Day Saints (LDS) church, and will host the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Metropolitan Salt Lake City-Ogden-Provo is the largest urban agglomeration within a 500-kilometer radius, making it the economic, arts, educational and transportation center of a substantial region.
