Transport of Dissolved Contaminants within a Stream Bed with Bedforms
Publication: Building Partnerships
Abstract
Numerical calculations are performed for the nonsorbing contaminants within a sediment beds with bedforms. The effects of channel slope, hydraulic head, and dispersion on contaminant concentrations, mass flow rate, and location of the concentration front are determined. It is found that the flow induced by the bedform is largely responsible for the mass transfer of contaminants into the water column. The results also show that mechanical dispersion in the sediment bed may significantly increase the contaminant mass flow rate from the source.
