The Hydrologic Modeling System: New Capabilities

Abstract
The Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) is "next generation" software for precipitation-runoff simulation that will supercede the HEC-1 Flood Hydrograph Package. The program is a significant advancement over HEC-1 in terms of both hydrologic engineering and computer science. This paper discusses current capabilities of the program that are not found in HEC-1. Future development plans and research topics are also discussed.
