Observaciones de Desempeño de Puentesdurante el Terremoto de Chile en 2010

Abstract
El convenio Departamento de Estado de USA-Programa chileno Fulbright, envió especialistas senior a Chile después del terremoto “Maule 2010” a desarrollar estudios colaborativos con facultades de las principales universidades chilenas. El estudio descrito aquí encontró que puentes construidos con vigas de concreto después de 1995 sin diafragmas y shearkeys sufrieron daños extensos en tanto que puentes más antiguos diseñados construidos con estos elementos no sufrieron tanto daño de torsión o rotación sobre el eje vertical. Debido a lo escarpado del talud, muchos terraplenes sufrieron deslizamientos. Muros de contención de concreto y muros de terraplenes mecánicamente estabilizados no fueron dañados. En regiones costeros la licuefacción indujo asentamiento de cepas y desplazamientolateral lo cual impactó el desempeño de los puentes.
