Modelando los Factores e Índices de Competitividad para Constructoras: Hallazgos en Chile

Resumen

La globalización y el ambiente altamente competitivo han generado una urgente necesidad por crear estrategias competitivas para sobrevivir. Por ello, las compañías requieren un mejor entendimiento sobre cómo interrelacionan los factores que determinan la competitividad y los índices que la miden. Considerando que la planificación estratégica dentro de la industria de la construcción presenta retos importantes, esta investigación apoya en la toma de decisiones asociada con la mejora de la competitividad. El presente artículo presenta de inicio las variables críticas que definen la competitividad de los contratistas generales según apreciación de los propios altos mandos de los contratistas generales. Luego, se propone un modelo de interrelaciones, que describe cómo esas variables están interrelacionadas basándose en reconocidos modelos de negocio y otras interrelaciones encontradas en la literatura. El modelo propuesto se evaluó utilizando la técnica de modelación Partial Least Squares. Los resultados mostraron que el liderazgo tiene, en términos generales, el mayor impacto sobre los índices de competitividad, lo que implica que cualquiera que sea la meta establecida por la constructora, debe poner especial atención en este tema del liderazgo. Los siguientes factores que más afectan los índices son la gestión de contratos y la gestión de la seguridad y salud. Los resultados obtenidos apoyan la planificación estratégica en las constructoras, a través de ayudar a los gerentes a orientar los esfuerzos de la compañía hacia aquellos factores que más impactan los índices que requieran mejorar.
