Transportation data are needed by traffic engineers, highway planners, and others for traffic engineering studies, long‐range planning, and real‐time monitoring of transportation facilities. However, data collection techniques, quantities, analysis procedures, and presentations have significantly changed during the past two decades, primarily due to capabilities resulting from new technologies. This special collection aims to bring together the latest research and advances in the state of practice on transportation data collection and analysis. The collection includes 11 papers covering travel and driver behaviors, traffic operations, active transportation, and modelling using big data/deep learning.
