This special collection provides a repository of the state-of-the-art research outcomes and state-of-the-practice case studies on advanced technologies and numerical modeling of geosystems in modern geotechnical engineering. There are successful projects in many different countries using green infrastructure approaches to reduce imperviousness and preserve natural open space. Designing smart & green infrastructure requires fulfillment of the design conditions at ultimate limit state (ULS) as well as at serviceability limit state (SLS). The ULS is dependent upon the strength properties of the engineering materials, while the deformations needed for the SLS are primarily determined from the stiffness properties of soil and structural materials. Consequently, prior to design and construction stages, the strength and the stiffness properties of all the relevant components have to be established within the appropriate boundary conditions.
