2022 Journal of Management in Engineering End-of-Year Review

Publication: Journal of Management in Engineering
Volume 39, Issue 4
As we start the year 2023, we are hopeful that the pandemic is finally behind us and we can go back to our normal life and activities. Over the last 3 years, we have adopted virtual meetings to teach, conduct research, and collaborate with scholars from all over the world. The Journal of Management Engineering (JME) now has biannual editorial board meetings with active participation of editorial board members attending from different time zones. I am seeing more coauthored papers from different countries being submitted and published. I hope that JME can continue to play a key role in advancing the body of knowledge in our field. I would like to summarize JME’s 2022 progress and achievements and address what is ahead in the future.

JME New Editorial Board Members

In 2022, JME added two new editorial board members from Australia and Colombia as a continued effort to broaden the visibility of JME to other parts of the world. Please welcome the following two new editorial board members. I look forward seeing their active participation and contribution to JME.
Rita Peihua Zhang, RMIT University, Australia
Jose A. Guevara, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia

JME Impact Factor and Statistics

I am pleased to announce that JME’s 2021 Impact Factor compiled by Clarivate Analytics was 6.145 with a 5-year impact factor of 6.537. In terms of area ranking by impact factor, JME was 12 out of 138 (Quartile 1) in civil engineering and 14 out of 50 (Quartile 2) in industrial engineering in 2021. JME continues to receive the highest impact factor among all journals published by ASCE. This achievement is a result of a collective effort of associate editors, editorial board members, ASCE Journals Department staff as well as scholars and peers in our field who have reviewed, published, and cited JME papers.
In 2022, JME has received 521 papers and published 6 issues with 119 papers. The ASCE Journals Department reported that the review time, on average, from initial submission to first decision was 42 days and to final decision was 151 days including maximum two revisions. The percentage of quick rejects and full review were 62% and 38%, respectively.

JME Best Paper Award

Each year, JME selects the best paper to recognize and promote outstanding contributions to the body of knowledge in management in engineering. The best paper selection committee (chaired by Yilong Han in 2022) considered all the papers published from July 2021 to May 2022 and selected one best paper and one honorable mention paper. The Best Paper Award of 2022 went to Liupengfei Wu, Weisheng Lu, Rui Zhao, Jinying Xu, Xiao Li, and Fan Xue for “Using Blockchain to Improve Information Sharing Accuracy in the Onsite Assembly of Modular Construction” [https://doi.org/10.1061/(ASCE)ME.1943-5479.0001029]. The honorable mention paper went to Yongqi Wang and Robert L. K. Tiong for “Public–Private Partnership Contract Failure Prediction Using Example-Dependent Cost-Sensitive Models.” [https://doi.org/10.1061/(ASCE)ME.1943-5479.0000990]. Please congratulate the recipients of Best Paper and Honorable Mention Awards.

JME Special Collections

JME uses special collections to raise and expand important and emerging topics that would appeal to a broad audience and engage in debate in our discipline. Currently, we have three special collections that are ongoing:
“Modularization and Standardization Strategies in Construction Industry” edited by Jin Ouk Choi (University of Nevada, Las Vegas), Yong-Cheol Lee (Louisiana State University), and Wei Pan (University of Hong Kong).
“Workforce Development and Support in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry” edited by Rita Peihua Zhang (RMIT University), Clara Cheung (University of Manchester), Alex Albert (North Carolina State University), and Ruoyu Jin (London South Bank University).
“ESG Transformation in the AEC Industry” edited by Deepak Sharma (California State University, Fullerton) and Qingbin Cui (University of Maryland).
JME is always looking for novel principles, practices, and trends that contribute to the body of knowledge in management in engineering. All proposals for special collections are reviewed by JME associate editors for rapid feedback and approval. Please send me an email if you have ideas or interests in proposing a special collection.

JME Social Medias

JME continues to utilize different social media to announce latest publications and relevant news to a wide range of audiences. Recently, we have uploaded to YouTube a series of short introductions to our special collections. Please follow one or more social media accounts to receive up-to-date news from JME:
JME is accepting short videos or lay summaries (brief summaries) to introduce and promote your research published in JME to the public. Please contact me if you want to upload a short video file (510  min) or lay summary or want to be interviewed by the executive editorial board members talking about your publication.

Concluding Remarks

On behalf of the JME editorial board, I would like to wholeheartedly thank all the authors, reviewers, and particularly the ASCE Journals Department staff who contributed to make JME a premier journal in our field. I continue to look forward to receiving your best research work. I always welcome your constructive feedback, suggestions, and recommendations. I can be reached by email at [email protected]. Thank you.
