Leadership and Management in Engineering Best Feature Article Award 2008–2009
Publication: Leadership and Management in Engineering
Volume 9, Issue 4
Congratulations to Mark Rodgers and Craig Olmsted, the authors of “The Cape Wind Project in Context,” which has been selected as the best feature article in Leadership and Management in Engineering for 2008–2009. The article appeared in the July 2008 issue of the journal, which was a special issue, “Engineering Strategies for Global Climate Change,” coordinated by Guest Editor Sam Liao.
In their article, the authors describe developing plans for an offshore wind farm in Nantucket Sound south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. They discuss issues and tradeoffs associated with the project goals of developing reusable energy sources to potentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions while dealing with environmental concerns. The superbly written article presents a case study featuring many challenging issues that engineers must grapple with when designing for sustainability.
Congratulations also to this year’s runners up:
In the October 2008 issue, “A Tale of Two Bridges: Dangerous and Still Standing” by Robert Clark, and in the April 2009 issue, “Consulting Engineers: Myers-Briggs Type and Temperament Preferences” by Gordon Culp and Ann Smith.
