Low-Impact Development, Sustainability Science, and Hydrological Cycle

 The need for fostering next-generation civil engineers with a low-impact development (LID) knowledge base is greater now than ever. With the emerging initiative of “sustainable development” in almost all engineering fields, it is the goal of this special issue to present a series of multidisciplinary LID studies. This special issue therefore collects 16 papers to exhibit scientific and engineering challenges, as well as demonstrate some of the successes in the laboratories and in fieldwork. Articles in this special issue combine the confluence of ideas and expertise in the area of LID from diverse points of view in dealing with unique storm water management issues. Each of these articles represents a comprehensive study of recent development in this field. It is indeed a great pleasure for me to see so many eminent scholars from different countries and regions contribute to this issue and share their precious experience for this ever-growing community. Finally, I wish to thank every author and reviewer for his or her enthusiastic contributions to this special issue.
