The Changing Face of the Journal of Infrastructure Systems

Publication: Journal of Infrastructure Systems
Volume 25, Issue 4
We are pleased to announce revisions to the aims and scope of the Journal of Infrastructure Systems, and changes to our editorial team. The changes reflect both the evolution of the field of infrastructure systems and shifts in the interests and commitments of associate editors and Editorial Board members.
Since the first issue of the Journal of Infrastructure Systems was published almost 25 years ago, the journal has focused on publishing cross-disciplinary papers in the field of infrastructure systems. The expectation is that these papers are grounded in engineering principles and make methodological contributions to monitoring, evaluating, expanding, repairing, replacing, financing, or otherwise sustaining civil infrastructure. The aims and scope of the journal are intended to communicate these expectations to authors, reviewers, and readers.
After 25 years, the field of infrastructure systems has evolved and the editors have decided it is time to revise the aims and scope of the journal to reflect the changes in the field and the opportunities for contributions to include new methodologies, technologies, and knowledge related to infrastructure systems. The revised aims and scope can be found on the journal’s website (https://ascelibrary.org/page/jitse4/editorialboard). As in the past, the emphasis is on systems in and contributions to the field, recognizing its complexity, and on the importance of interaction between physical, social, ecological, economic, and technological systems. We look forward to your contributions.
The areas covered by the Journal of Infrastructure Systems, to some extent, mimic the expertise of the associate editors. Associate editors manage the review process, from identifying reviewers to making an initial decision, and then handling rereviews. In the past year, we have said farewell to Rabi Mishalani from Ohio State University, an associate editor since 1998, and Kenneth Kuhn from Uber (formerly from RAND), an associate editor since 2015. We thank them both for their service. The current slate of associate editors and their expertise are summarized as follows:
Bryan Adey, Ph.D., Eldgenössiche Technische Hochschule Zurich
Infrastructure management, asset management, decision-making
Panagiotis Anastasopoulos, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE, University at Buffalo
